At 10:54 p.m., officers responded to Galaxy Towers for a report of fire alarms activated and were informed there was a partially dressed man, Alfredo Gonzalez,  running from the 26th floor to the 20th floor, behaving erratically, Guttenberg police said.

Officers made their way to the 26th floor and heard loud screaming and banging, which led them to the 20th floor, police said. They observed Gonzalez striking, pulling, and hanging on to a fire panel in a stairwell, police said. They also observed damage to walls in the common areas of the apartment complex, police said.

Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, police said. Gonzalez caused $3,921.66 worth of damage, police said.

Gonzalez was charged with criminal mischief and contempt of court for violating a pre-trial release order prohibiting him from engaging in criminal activity, following previous arrests for numerous crimes, police said.

He was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and was lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center, police said.

Earlier in October, Gonzalez was jailed after officer said he walked into a local police station and called 9-1-1 over a scented candle, and continued to call 9-1-1 until he was jailed later that day, police said.
